As a newly hired nurse at Autumn Care of Shallotte, I appreciate the highly expected care of your residents, but the training for new nurses is poorly handled considering all documentation is computerized. I was given no in-depth computer training and 3 days of orientation by nurses that were not interested in teaching. The charting expected is so time consuming that you are at a computer more than able to provide nursing care. There is not enough staff members(CNA's) to cover the hall's to prevent fall's for the high rate of confused resident's, not to mention a no restraint or alarm policy. Then staff is berated for the high amount of fall's and called in on their time off to explain to corporate why the resident fell. The charting for a fall is extremely time consuming, taking the nurse away from other high fall risk residents. Nurses are left threatening notes to clock out at the end of their shift on time, which is impossible to do at times when there have been multiple fall's. The documentation demnds, lab draws, 1 hour hall checks, census reports, refrigerator temp. checks, crash cart checks, treatments, monitoring your CNA's, 2 hour evening and morning medication passes, and the assessments that pop up in the computer randomly throughout the shift to be preformed, are just a few of the stresses placed on nurses that cause them to make at times poor judgements to cut corners. I am writing all this because I am on suspension for doing such that. My biggest concern is I did NOT get enough computer training to know how to efficiently perform my duties. Please understand it is my intention to provide quality care, but change must be made in favor for the nurses as many have verbalized being overwhelmed with desire to quit. Not good influences on newly hired nurses. If you truly want your residents to receive good care, I suggest more staffing so the nurses can spend the time documenting in the computer since they don't have the time to actually provide care to the residents as we truly do desire to do so
